How PhotoRejuvenation Works

Advanced photofacial technology is administered to the skin to target the pigment and redness in the epidermal layer. It works by converting the light energy to heat and destroying the hyperactive cells that produce the unwanted melanin. The pigmentation spots pop out to the surface layer of your skin and turn into a coffee ground like texture that eventually slough off. This results in skin that is clear from age spots, small vessels, excess brown pigmentation, and redness. Works to reduce effects on the skin that are related to premature aging. Best for those who have uneven complexion with signs of discolouration or visible veins on their skin.

Photorejuvenation treatments works best for light to medium skin tones. Our IPL wavelength ranges from 690-940 so the treatment works and is safe on darker skin types 4 & 5 but it is not safe for skin type 6. With a higher skin type there is a higher risk of discolouration. It’s best to consult with the technician to see if the treatment is right for you.

Treatments are done 3-4 weeks apart.

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams or makeup before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. You must also avoid any tanning, including with self-tanners. You may be advised to shave the area before your treatment. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated.

The treatment ranges from feeling barely anything, to a light snap with an elastic band against your skin, as the applicator moves around the treatment area.

The applicator has a cooling feature built into it to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you’re treating a more sensitive area, like the upper lip. If you find it too uncomfortable, let the operator know and they can adjust the treatment accordingly.

Most feel nothing or a slight warm after the treatment. You can remain pink for anywhere between an hour to a day after the treatment. Be sure to follow instructions for before and after your treatment.

Avoid tanning for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your treatment, and wear sunscreen. You should also avoid hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin for the first 2 days after your treatment.

Results improve over time, with the best results visible 3 months after the treatment and small signs after 1 month. Skin care maintenance and protection is very important for longevity of the results, as overexposure to the sun can bring back pigmentation spots.
